We've been running the current double elimination ladders for a few years now. As far as I know we are the only group that does this format. Most of the other events in the pacific northwest run two passes for everyone. Some of them average the two, some combine the two, some take the faster of the two. Along the same lines, I recently heard small chatter about changing the way we do things at our races. Our current format can result in a race that drags on and on, leaving many racers with nothing to do while other classes make run after run. An idea that came up was to run a set number of passes like the other tracks do. For example, we could give each class four passes. After those passes are done, we throw out each racer's fastest and slowest times, add the two middle ones, then determine places by fastest combined times. This has some potential benefits: - Is familiar for most racers since it is similar to what other tracks do
- Gives everyone a set number of passes
- Eliminates the need for shuffling different classes around as the day goes on
- Brings the event to a conclusion faster
Let's get some chatter going on this topic. Talk about whether you would like to keep what we're doing or if we should explore a different kind of racing. Keep in mind that our first priority should be to attract more racers, so talk about what would get you to try out a new event.
